Baroque guitar model after Alexadnre Voboam circa 1670.
The Voboam family represent a dynasty of luthiers based in Paris active from 1640 to 1730. Alexandre was the son of renowned luthier Rene Voboam and was famous for his innovations in marquetry, expanding his fathers already elegant work into items of true luxury art. He likely made instruments for members of the versailles nobility and possibly even the royal family, Louis XIV himself being a guitarist as a young man.
Our model is based on the surviving guitar by Alexandre which is currently housed in the National Music Museum in South Dakota and has a scale length of 677mm, although we are happy to take commissions for longer or shorter lengths if required.
We use Aquila New Nylgut strings which we can set up to play at either a’=440 or 415hz.
Our Instruments are supplied with a hard case.
